This is a true one-piece carving - the owl, snake, and shaft are carved from the same block, with continuous grain throughout. The carving shows confident, skilled hand work with deep undercutting and natural asymmetry, characteristic of late Victorian / Edwardian European folk carving. The owl and serpent form a symbolic composition traditionally associated with wisdom, protection, and renewal, indicating this was conceived as a narrative piece rather than a purely decorative stick.
