If required, I can provide you with a. Whilst your order is being crafted. I will keep you updated throughout the stick making process, sending you photos from the workshop so that you can see your stick really come to life. The shanks/ shafts are locally sourced, seasoned Hazel from the Midlands. A brass collar can also be added but this needs to be stipulated at time of ordering.
The shank/shaft is traditionally pegged into the head piece making for a stronger secure joint. The heads are crafted in lime wood, each piece is hand carved making it unique and individual to the next, so no two heads are the same thus making your stick a truly one-off piece and personal to you. Once the head is carved the eyes are set before detailing the fur, each head piece is then hand painted before being pegged to the shank/shaft. A nickel or brass collar can be added at this point.
Each stick is then oiled giving it a water / weatherproof finish that can be used all year long. Finally, a ferrule is added to the stick to protect the bottom of the shank when used in the field. All of my sticks are produced using traditional stick making tools and techniques.
The sticks are not suitable for use as a beating stick. The sticks are an approximate length of 53 inches from the ferrule to the top of the head. Please specify when placing an order if you require a specific length.
The heads are mounted on straightened hazel shanks and are all finished off with a brass Ferrule. My country sticks are made to the highest standard using strong quality wood but are not suitable to be used as beating sticks or to be relied upon as a medical aid. Please contact me if you would like to commission a country walking stick, I do have some sticks in stock but due to demand many are now made to order, this can take up to 8-10 weeks. If you like my work, I'd be really grateful if you would like and share my Facebook page -'Billy's Country Walking Sticks' here you can keep updated with what's happening in the workshop.
