Hand Carved Walking Stick In Crimson King Maple On A Dappled Hazel Shank
I have for sale a beautiful hand carved walking stick carved in a piece of Crimson King Maple and featuring a stylised Badger on the nose. The badger is not painted, it only has two glass eyes, moth and nose. The latter burned with a pyrograph, the shape of the badger head is there along with the ears. The stick is approx 40 inches tall and can be cut down to customer specification and ferrule fitted before posting. The stick is mounted on a superb mottled hazel shank. I carve these sticks myself, they are not bought in to sell on, or even worse imo, made from cast resin heads. My sticks have glass eyes, are hand carved and each one is unique, it is impossible to make two identical sticks due to differences in grain and colour of the wood and the way the knife goes. All my sticks are finished with multiple coats of yacht varnish on the shank, Matt polyurethane on the head and solid brass ferrules ready for work or display.

I can fit rare earth magnets in the ferrule for use picking up cartridge cases upon request and a small extra charge. My sticks are mostly carved from lime and mounted on hazel or blackthorn shanks.

I sometimes use different shank woods including fruitwoods and other unusual shanks. My crook type handles are carved from various woods including spalted hardwoods. I keep a supply of suitable woods in stock for commissions. Ask if there is something you want in particular, I can usually satisfy most requests by way of wood and/ or shape. Most of my shanks are bought from a fellow walking stick maker who cuts hundreds of shanks each year. Many of my sticks have collars fitted between the head and the shank to highlight the joint or are cut at an angle to follow the line of the beak etc. A woodcock or a Heron with an angles joint following the line of the beak, imo, is most pleasing to look at.

I have been making sticks for some years and I have made sticks for German Princes, the President of Luxembourg, Multi Millionaires and the late Queen Elizabeth II amongst others. I sell sticks to customers and collectors both in the UK and overseas. Many of my regular customers are stick collectors in the USA.

I still sell sticks to customers in the EU but posting to the EU has been made more expensive due to the VAT changes imposed by Brexit unfortunately. Please see my feedback it says everything! Lease see my feedback it says everything!
