Unusual/rare Long Folk Art Carved Walking Stick/stick Scandinavian/japanese

This is a very curious walking stick/staff. The handle carved as a mythological sea creature/eel with long curled tail. Carved from a dense piece of hardwood. Not sure where this was made, possibly Scandinavian or Japanese or Chinese.
