This interesting pre-WWII carved pine walking stick was found at a garage sale in Cassopolis, Michigan and is carved from a 1 ½ x 1 5/8 square pine lumber scrap. Measuring only 30 ¾ long (she must have been SHORT), the piece boasts carved diamond designs about a cage with captured ball and stem around which twines a rattle snake.
The top knob is a make-do/salvaged bedstead knob from the late 1800s and the finish is a reddish varnish (with lots of edge wear) having plain wood and black accents. It is sturdy and without breaks, repairs or loss. The item "Vintage African American Folk Art Carved SNAKE Cane Walking Stick captured ball" is in sale since Monday, March 25, 2019.
