For sale, a hand carved Woodcock head in local lime wood, (tree cut down on a local Gower estate and milled locally) stained and markings added by pyrography and finally laquered to protect it. The shank is treated with five coats of pure tung oil, this gives protection while leaving a great natural looking Matt finish. The shank is fitted with an angle joint and a mahogany spacer It is a spectacular stick! This bark of the Holly is stripped but some of the corky bark layer has been retained to give colour and interest. SEE MY FEEDBACK, THESE ARE GREAT AND VERY WELL RECEIVED!
Ask for more info if required. People in the office have commented on how great it is.Thanks so much Best Mike Two excellent sticks, a credit to the maker, highly recommended... I have always had a keen interest in DIY, and woodwork in particular. Both my father and grandfather were very capable woodworkers, my grandfather spent his retirement carving and was a most accomplished wood carver. I still use many of his hand tools to make these sticks!
I try to always use local hardwoods and locally hand cut shanks, most of myhazel I cut myself from trees growing around a medieval castle here on the Gower! Each stick takes two to three days to complete, often over the course of a few weeks, I often carve two or three heads at a time, then mount them on shanks and finish them in small batches.
As it is a hobby rather than a business, I tend to make whatever I fancy making, and only when I feel in the mood? I do commissions, lately most of my work is commissions, if you want something in particular, please ask!
